Are we still the “Greatest Nation on Earth”?

I got this from a friend, thought i share it will all of you.

This candlelight heart is a sign of my thoughts and prayers for the families who lost loved ones in Newtown, CT. Please share this to show they are in your thoughts and prayers too. Thank you

“Our Union is in need of serious re-evaluation. Constant negative media attention has had an impact on our psyche. We are in a state of distrust, and it’s fair to say the stress levels of the citizens have hit a breaking point. We have one of the biggest income gaps of any nation in the world. The rich are getting richer, the poor poorer, and there’s not really an end in sight. When there’s a gap as large as ours citizens begin to distrust each other. When the distrust is bad enough, we lock ourselves out to intelligent explanations. That leaves us vulnerable to fear. We give up our ability to reason and believe anyone on a soapbox that is willing to lay blame. The line between right and wrong becomes finer and finer until it’s not even there anymore. We have an imbalance, and people are getting hurt because of it. At what point do we finally realize that we need to set aside our differences and come up with solutions? What in the hell has happened to us as a nation that we can’t even feel safe leaving children in school? Why do we have more gun violence in America per population than Japan? Or England? Or Switzerland? What makes them better than us? Isn’t America the “Greatest Nation on Earth”? Are we still? Why are we so violent towards each other when we are a nation where “all men are created equal”? Why are our differences so important to us that we resort to hate and violence? I worry this is only the beginning of what is yet to come if we don’t learn to compromise. Where’s the compassion for your fellow man? It goes back to the basics: “Do unto others as you want done to you” and “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” It should never, ever, EVER resort to the slaughter of innocent people, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN! We need to understand the source of the problem, agree on a solution, and act on it! Enough of the blame game! Enough of the name calling and bickering! Get to action! COMPROMISE! FIX THIS! Please share…”
